[Explanatory note: this was originally posted in a long thread over a couple of days on Den of Angels. I don’t want to just copy the whole thread here, so I’ve tried to reduce it to its essence so that the installments that followed from it make some kind of sense!]

Just because.
Hitokiri Battousai is a Rem. Red, with eyes modded by me. Himura Kenshin is a standard Red with slightly enhanced makeup – and my first 1/3 sized doll ever.

And because I get asked a lot – the (real silk!) outfits are from an eBay seller. Kenshin’s was from two separate sets – Battousai’s was commissioned from the same seller (Miniorient)

Well wow! I wasn’t anticipating that sort of reaction, really! 🙂

I mean gosh. I’ve had Kenshin for close to 2 1/2 years, and Battousai… oh, at least a year now. I’ve just never gotten around to putting pictures of them both up together, as I was reminded earlier.

You might be able to tell that I kinda love the character. Ask Aernath – my part of the house is a bit of a Kenshin shrine. *embarrassed* I couldn’t get a really good shot of it, but just over their heads is a really big scroll of the OVA Kenshin and Battousai, which is the spitting image of both of them. Kinda skeery, really..

Zelgadis is BACK!

What a long story this doll has. I know he was at least two different shades of gray when Aschfan owned him. Then I traded for him and painted him the perfect “Zelgadis” (from the anime Slayers) greenish-blue – but discovered that thick paint stayed on about five nanoseconds after his first movement.

He then had ALL. THAT. PAINT. removed from him (over quite an extended period in June 2007) and got sanded down and dyed a nice light teal – or so I thought. But no! He was GREEN. GREEN, I say, like an artificial Christmas tree. No.

I wasn’t about to sell his head, which I have adored ever since I first saw it, nor did I think anyone would have a use for a multiply-modded girl-to-boy body that had been all the colors of the rainbow. Mottled, scratched, fugly… and beloved.

So in the box he went.

It’s been a YEAR! but I re-sanded him (much better this time), re-dyed him a light blue (which over residual green was the *perfect* color) and re-applied his “rocks” (which are built up with Liquitex gel extender and painted gray, then “blushed” with dark gray pastels). Et voila:

It’s obviously not his regulation outfit but will do while I’m making one… and although that IS the perfect color and fur for his wig it’s not quite long enough (any wig maker out there have LONG purple frost?)

… and even though he’s no beauty and never will be I am *absolutely thrilled* to have Zel BACK!!

So after an eon and a half I realized that I never actually put updated pictures of him in here … so a year and some later, here they are.

What’s additionally fun is that he actually has an entire new BODY since this shot. I decided that I was tired of him looking so much shorter than the rest of the guys and something like a pencil-necked geek, so he’s now on a Fantasydoll body that suits him perfectly. — it also allowed me to get his hands and arms the same color, finally.

Leaf’s Lament

So for the past day or so we’ve had outbursts of several sorts from Ichigo, visiting up at the Resinhouse (http://www.denofangels.com/forums/sh…d.php?t=249232) and the apparent release of a WHOLE lotta pent-up frustration back at the Ranch: (http://www.denofangels.com/forums/sh…d.php?t=249274).

The immediate spark to all of this seems to have been Ardit, who until recently lived here with the Baakay Bunch, but traded places with Leaf a few weeks ago.

Leaf’s been out here chillin’ — literally — while we created all sorts of chaos around him, but finally the comments from the East Coast about him being out here with “the babes” finally got to him. This is his response to all the responses. Or at least it was supposed to be.

Leaf: Good grief. All the whining going on. And they think I’m sitting out here laughin’ with the babes. I’m freezing my buns off and the FURNACE is going, for cryin’ out loud! Well ok, last weekend I *did* have my arm around this Ember chick… But I sure wasn’t getting any of what Rat was gettin’!!

Leaf: And look NOW! She’s all cuddled up to Mr. Whiter Than Death Count D over here!

Broc: And he doesn’t even LIKE girls! He… likes animals. *Thought I’d be helpful…*

Count D: I fear I am somehow in the wrong story. Do I belong here? Is it teatime yet?

Ember: (*it might have helped if he’d reapplied his deodorant after all our moving of quarters…*)

Allegro: I’m no Nyssia, but shall I come sit in your hand?

Roquefort: SQUEAK!

Broc: How’d we get these two here, anyway?

Battousai: Perhaps you would like me to … Dispatch one or two? It is the season for political smears, after all. It would hardly be noticed.

Broc: …. that’s….ok…

Niari: The LIGHT! It BURNS!!
Tanwoo: Do you think I’m showing enough thigh for Hobby?

Edouard: *sigh*

Leaf: You see? It’s no saner here than it is at the Hellhole(tm) or the Ranch. And it’s COLD, besides! I think I’d rather go home and look at Ian’s new body!!

(Meanwhile, at the other end of the room)

Kenshin: This one had nothing to do with any of this.

“Shin”: That you did not.

Floyd: Help?

That’s all! Short but stupid!

Some of the Bunch Sees Sun!

I present … Some Guyz!

Standing is Roiben (UD Feanor head on DZ 70cm body with modded neck). He was showing off his new leather duds including a coat and boots lifted from some poor Yukinojo somewhere.

Seated on the cinderblock are the lovely Ardit (Iplehouse Tan Soo-Ri v.1) and Tanwoo Hu (Tan Shiwoo), who is very concerned about either tornadoes — or the big cranky momma squirrel who was in the tree right over his head.

Front row, in the grass: Edouard, a BRAND new and worth every moment of waiting B&G Doll Afra boy. Oh my yes he is so fantastic. (and none of the usual "for the price," either, he’s just plain fantastic). In the middle is Niari, my favorite little lounge lizard — Shiwoo type 1. And finally, making the aquaintance of the aphids 🙁 is Broc, an El head on Soom body.

I’d give you the list of who’s *not* in the picture but it would take up all the space reserved for the rest of the pics. Which I’m sure you’ll enjoy more! 🙂

I’m not sure why Ardit was being so cranky in the next shot … but Roiben was watching his #1 fan, Lizardbreath. 😉 Oh, and why does Tanwoo look like he has a thistle growing out of his head?? O_o

Yeah they’re mostly the same. This is a nicer angle of Edouard, though:

Broc is overexposed in the sun, yes he is. But who cares. Not I! (Clothes by Diverse Designs, btw)

The incredibly beautiful Edouard. He’ll get lots more airtime, I suspect.

Niari, who has tried lots of different looks but always comes back to the vivid blue eyes in the end.

The ever-delectable Tanwoo, watching the skies.

And we always seem to have a tiny struggle going on for the position of Alpha Elf in my Horde between Roiben and Emperor Iruhi, a DZ Wing who stayed inside on this day. For this particular moment, Roiben Alpha’s quite nicely, don’t you think?

Last, but by no means least — and wishing he could be comparing tans with TangetsuGo and the rest of the Iplehouse Army at Aernath’s house, is Ardit. Usually he’s smiling at me but this particular day he pouted and glowered.

Tanwoo Hu…Woo Hoo! (Tan Shiwoo)

I’ve had Tanwoo for a year or so now – always elegant and wonderful. But this new set of Soom Nieve eyes – I snapped a couple of shots of him and am blown away by him yet again. Even my crudworthy camera skills aren’t enough to make him look bad! 🙂

Kenshin Gets a Massage

Preamble: I’ve got a bad back. Bad as in a spinal curvature that has my muscles in more or less continual spasm. Not fun, but for the last 12 years or so I’ve been fortunate enough to enjoy the torture of deep tissue massage therapy given by a wonderful lady named Diane.

Over the years she’s heard more than any one human should have to endure about anime, cels, and now BJDs. She’s very familiar not only with the "speed bumps" in my muscles but with the story of Himura Kenshin. She’s seen pictures of my dolls, all of which she thinks are interesting– "but there’s something magical about Kenshin." I decided this week that she should finally meet him in person.

So. It’s been tense around here for the past couple of weeks. Annual review time in higher education is never happy. You have to take a hard look at yourself and what you’ve done for the past year. Sometimes unpleasant things from the past arise. It’s a real pain in the neck– and for me, that’s sometimes literal as well as figurative.

Kenshin, being the very thoughtful soul he is, picked up on that and was getting kind of tense himself. In fact, he’s been feeling really torn lately, and nervous about the fact that his old self, the assassin, keeps trying to appear more and more often.

So what better way to relax a tense body than to get a massage from a real pro?

Kenshin: I have a tight muscle there, that I do.
Diane-Sensei (to Baakay): Not for long. I’m going to use THE ELBOW!

Kenshin: Diane-Dono! *oof* *cringe* That is PAINFUL, that it is!
Diane-Sensei: Think he’s had enough yet?
Baakay: Not yet. Do the other side. BWAHAHAHAHA!!!

Diane-Sensei: My, what tight abs you have. And I sense that you are anatomically correct…
Kenshin: Oro…
Baakay: *giggling too hard to speak*

Finally it was time for a little reflexology to relax the tootsies and help the energy flow properly…

Kenshin: Aaaaaahhhhhh….
Diane-Sensei: There. You’ll feel better now. Drink plenty of water tonight or you’ll hate me in the morning.
