The main character from The Irresponsible Captain Tylor is a real enigma from start to finish. I heard Crispin Freeman (his English language voice actor) describe him as what you'd get if you "put Winnie-the-Pooh in charge of a starship." This is a great series, containing a scene with Tylor and his counterpart Dom that is one of the most perfectly written and executed dramatic moments I've ever seen in any medium.
